A Hobby That Found Me
I like creating things, but I never sought out to get into photography… It happened by accident.
I purchased my first DSLR (Nikon D80) when my son was born to take photos of him. I gave that camera to my sister when she had her first child, justifying the decision because the new D90 had better low light capabilities to capture indoor swim lessons and little kickers soccer… plus it shot video!
A few years later and my 2 kids were playing travel soccer and I found that I could watch from anywhere with a big enough camera, but the D90 and kit lens couldn’t keep up, so I bought a D500 with an assortment of lenses. This was perfect for soccer with its fast auto-focus, ability to handle the elements, and a pixel pitch that allowed cropping to fill the frame with the players.
Later my son decided he was interested in photography and I bought the newly released Z6. I figured the full frame camera would be a better option for portraits and the electronic viewfinder would make learning the exposure triangle easier. He has now moved out, but regularly still borrow this camera to take car photos for himself and friends.
